based on a true story illustrated by Shennen Bersani Astro is not an ordinary sea lion. He is a Steller sea lion. He lost his mother when he was only a few days old. No one knows what happened to her. Luckily, a scientist spotted Astro, hungry and all alone, on an island off the coast of northern California. The young pup was brought to The Marine Mammal Center, a special place in Sausalito, California, that cares for sick, hurt, and stranded marine mammals. When Astro was big enough to be released in the ocean where he belonged, he had other plans! Astro swam back under the Golden Gate Bridge and even joined a walk-a-thon at a school. After realizing that Astro was too attached to humans and would just keep returning, the people at the Center found him his current home at the wonderful Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut.
